"Where Vision Meets Implementation"

Chicago Transit Authority

The CTA operates the nation's second largest public transportation system and covers the City of Chicago and 40 surrounding suburbs. On an average weekday, approximately 1.7 million rides are taken on the CTA.

Project:
Howard Street Station

Location:
Chicago, IL

Project Value:
$60,000,000

Completed:
September, 2007 – February, 2008

Description:
Project consists of a phased reconstruction of a major transportation terminal. The Howard Street Station serves passengers on the yellow, purple and red transit lines as well as PACE and CTA buses. The project includes new platforms with canopies, a new station house which includes offices and training grounds for CTA employees, a new passenger fare control area, elevators, escalators, vending areas, and the restoration of the original station. Much of the work adjacent to or over the tracks was performed on weekends when partial track outages could be arranged. This work was done on continuous 53 hour shifts.

Passenger safety and maintenance of rail operations were of prime importance on this project.
