CSCP Optional Certification Testing

APICS CSCP exams qualify for test fees reimbursement by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) under the new licensing and certification benefit of the G.I. Bill.

APICS is recognized as an approved provider of CSCP education and certification to military personnel through DANTES, Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support.

Recent web searches of Monster.com, Workopolis.ca and careerbuilder.com show a growing number of job ads referring to the APICS CSCP. Some corporations are now requiring APICS CSCP certification for job families and as prerequisites for promotion. All government agencies interfacing with these prime contracting and subcontracting corporations will be presumed to understand the language, technologies, and methodologies used in organization being contracted with as well as how those aspects will integrate with the government agency's own legacy systems and initiatives.

CSCP certification testing is one exam. Registration for exams must be at least four days before exam date. North Texas APICS will work with the client to set up exam registration. If any participants are registered fewer than four days before the test, they will be accommodated only if space is available.

Currently, testing is held on specified dates throughout the year. APICS is introducing CBT, computer based testing, for certification exams which will increase the options for taking certification tests. North Texas APICS will assist the client in understanding which testing option is available and in selecting and signing participants up for certification testing. In some cases, it may be possible for certification testing to take place in a nearby community college. North Texas APICS will coordinate with the client for this option.

Optional certification testing is available for those who meet the following qualifications at end of program:

  • Successful completion of the CSCP coursework and one of the following:
    • CPIM, CFPIM, CIRM, or C.P.M. designation plus two years of related business experience*; or
    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent** plus two years of related business experience; or
    • Five years of related business experience*

*Related business experience: APICS defines "related business experience" as work that is directly connected to some aspect of the supply chain. This can include raw materials extraction, transportation and logistics, procurement, manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, retail, customer service, software design and support, and other areas that directly affect the supply chain. Workers who operate transportation or materials moving equipment or machines or processing equipment that require an intermediate level of training would qualify. Managers, officials, professionals, technicians, sales personnel, quality and quality control personnel, and skilled craft workers will generally be considered eligible.

Examples of work experience that would not qualify include clerical and administrative support positions such as data entry, duplicating machine operator, file clerks, office machine operators, secretaries, telephone operators, order clerks and/or unskilled labor positions where the duties require little or no independent judgment or specialized training.

**Equivalent of a bachelor's degree: APICS defines the equivalent of a bachelor's degree as the level of study that would qualify an individual for a graduate program in the country where the undergraduate degree was earned.

North Texas APICS will assist clients with the determination of eligibility. Currently, participants must submit qualifications for eligibility determination two months prior to the CSCP exam and exam registration must take place six weeks prior to exam offering. With the advent of CBT, the time requirements may be reduced and additional exam dates may be added to the existing schedule. North Texas APICS will assist clients with these details as needed.
